Belgian Malinois

Developed as a Hearding dog around the City of Malines in Belgium, the Malinois is the only one of four breeds or varieties, of Belgian sheepdog that has a short coat. Both the Groenendael & Tervuren are long haired, whilst the coat of the Laekenois is rough & wiry. The Malinois is much like the German Shepherd in general appearance, although it is typically taller & more lightly built. Being similarly intelligent & versatile, today it excels in many roles, including gaurding, Police & Military work, Search & Rescue & as a Therapy or Guid Dog.

A large, muscular sheepdog, with a long tapering muzzle & erect triangular ears. The coat is short, & Fawn to Reddish or Gray in Color, with shading, a black tipperd tail, face, & ears.

If firmly trained & well socialized when young, the Malinois will often also make an excellent family pet, but it can be wary of strangers & aggressive towards other animals at times. A very active & lively dog, it will also require pleanty of exercise if it is to remain happy, & is not recommended for a 1st time dog owner!!!
