Pig

Pigs are intelligent animals, and unlike their fame, they are clean pets. It is possible to housebreak a pig with the same difficulty that comes with training a dog or a cat.

They like to scavenge the floor looking for food, so they are a bit to destructive to keep around the house.

Pigs develop a close relationship with humans. They are affectionate and playful, but have to be picked up from the floor, since they see it as a threat.

One thing right about pigs is that they have a big appetite. They easily learn to open the refrigerator doors and they can become aggressive near children with food.

Dogs and pigs aren’t usually a good combination. Pigs tend to provoke dogs by stealing their food or toys and dogs tend to respond aggressively, since there are breeds bred to hunt wild boars.

Pigs are famous for having curly tails, but they can also have straight or kinked tails. Pigs have long and robust bodies, with short legs. Domesticated pigs usually have little to no hair covering the body.

Pigs can share the indoors with humans, as long they are kept in pig-proof rooms, that is, no fragile objects or electrical wires around. Indoors, they should have a soft place to be in, like a large pillow.

They need a yard to live in, preferably with a little bit of mud, where they can scavenge safely.

Pigs are omnivores and eat a vast variety of food. A common mistake owners do is to over feed the animal. The pig needs a diet rich in fibers and with low calories. The diet given in pig farms is usually to rich in fat. There are diets sold in pet stores specifically though for pigs. These animals need a lot of greens, fruit and hay.

The pig is mostly used to produce meat.
